”OS PARIOCAS was born in 2024 on the occasion of the very first Paris Samba Soul evenings, organized on the barge Son de la Terre, moored at the foot of Notre-Dame de Paris.
The project is spearheaded by Nicola Són, a French singer-songwriter, nicknamed by Jô Soares – a major figure in Brazilian television – “the most Brazilian of French singers”. Having lived in Brazil for several years, Nicola Són has performed there on numerous occasions, notably twice on the cult show Programa do Jô.
Composed of eight Brazilian and French musicians from the Parisian scene, OS PARIOCAS explores the legacy of the Black Rio of the 1970s, where samba, soul, funk and Afro-American music blended to give birth to a vibrant genre: samba-soul, also called samba-rock or sambalanço.
