”OS PARIOCAS was born in 2024 on the occasion of the very first Paris Samba Soul evenings, organized on the barge Son de la Terre, moored at the foot of Notre-Dame de Paris.
The project is spearheaded by Nicola Són, a French singer-songwriter, nicknamed by Jô Soares – a major figure in Brazilian television – “the most Brazilian of French singers”. Having lived in Brazil for several years, Nicola Són has performed there on numerous occasions, notably twice on the cult show Programa do Jô .
Composed of eight Brazilian and French musicians from the Parisian scene, OS PARIOCAS explores the legacy of the Black Rio of the 1970s, where samba, soul, funk and Afro-American music blended to give birth to a vibrant genre: samba-soul, also called samba-rock or sambalanço.
Under the musical direction of saxophonist Yann Jankielewicz—a composer and producer who has collaborated with legends such as Manu Dibango and Tony Allen—the group offers a modern and energetic reinterpretation of this repertoire, blending original compositions with rearranged covers. OS PARIOCAS creates a dialogue between Paris and Rio in a vibrant, festive, and socially conscious groove.
