”Mathilde Febre, for her first album under her name, pays a tribute here well to the tutelary figure of the jazz violin that is Stephane Grappelli.
For his tribute to Stéphane Grappelli (album Blues for Stéphane, Frémeaux & Associés), the violinist Mathilde Febre has brought together two essential soloists of the guitar scene: Samy Daussat (reference of the Manouche style) and Jean-Marie Ecay (partner of Claude Nougaro, Didier Lockwood, Jean-Luc Ponty, Richard Galliano, Cobham…). Flanked from a foolproof rhythmic section (Yves Torchinksy with a double bass and Julien Charlet on drums), this quintet obviously provides generous hat blows to jazz and swing, while sparing lovely surprises on the strings on the string, at the turn of a subtle wink to JS Bach or a "offbeat" recovery of the sweet France of Charles Trénet. A portrait could not be better clocked by the master of the violin!
