”“10 fingers for 10 Oscars”: a double homage to the pianist Oscar Peterson and to the music of “West Side Story”
This training, made up of six jazz musicians, includes a rhythmic section (piano, double bass, battery) and a melodic section, (trumpet/bugle, trombone, baritone/tenor sax).
Obtaining the “sound” of a mini big band while restoring the flexibility of a small training, here is a bet held thanks to the experience of musicians and the quality of arrangements.
For this creation in 2009 , Ludovic.de Preissac re-wrote a sequel, re-orchestrated for a sextet from, among other things, from the mythical version of “West Side Story” by the trio of Oscar Peterson (1962).
It is, at the same time, a respectful homage to one of the greatest pianists in jazz and to the most famous musicals (10 Oscars ...) where the music of Leonard Bernstein still resonates in our ears 50 years later.
The reverence is made to the “West Coast” combos of the 50s and 60s where the quality of writing competed with the invention of soloists
This program includes 10 movements and allows everyone to be highlighted while unrolled the thread of this story in resonance with the world today.
Here is what Jacques Aboucaya thinks (Jazz Magazine): "This" seven heads " offers a beautiful illustration of jazz as we like it, both respectful of its history and open to originality. This are the virtues of this orchestra. Livestus quite exceptional to be rented without the slightest reserve. ».
