”An effervescent contemporary jazz, which certainly takes you on a journey!
A breath in the steppes of Central Asia, the percussions in the bustling streets of Caracas, or the flight over the blue domes of the mosques of Samarkand. So many impressions collected during the journeys of pianist-composer Alexis Bajot-Nercessian and which innervate the compositions of the group LOWN. An effervescent contemporary jazz, which certainly takes you on a journey.
LOWN returns to the stage with a brand new repertoire. With a first album praised by the press released in February 2021, finalist of the La Défense Jazz Festival 2018 springboard, on tour in Central Asia (international festivals) and in residence in Paris in 2019, LOWN has multiplied collaborations to become a project with geometry variable, from the trio (double bass, drums, piano) to the sextet (with flute, trumpet and percussion), without forgetting the original quartet.
LOWN develops an atmospheric universe, a prism of colors ranging from the Orient to Latin America blending elegantly into a contemporary jazz setting. Accessible, pop and desecrated, music with fluid and melodic writing that in no way gives in to the demand for daring metrics.
LOWN plays with contrasts to take you where you might not expect to go. On stage, the interplay between written and improvised parts leaves plenty of room for maneuver for the protagonists. To the great pleasure of the public who have elements of reference, and drift with the musicians along the thread of improvisation.
Alexis Bajot-Nercessian: piano, keyboards
Pierre Demange: drums
Amina Mezaache: flute
Léo Jeannet: flugelhorn, trumpet
Hugo Rivière: double bass
Nils Wekstein: percussion
A unique place that suits all occasions, whether you want to celebrate the past, the present or the future!
