”Lento combines the lyrical soprano saxophone of Gilles Barikosky with the electric guitar textures of Nicolas Torracinta, somewhere between jazz and airy pop.
Lento is an instrumental music project that began in 2021. It was born from a collaboration between saxophonist Gilles Barikosky and guitarist Nicolas Torracinta. Its roots lie in improvised music, jazz, and Latin music.
It is from this common ground of influences that the project draws its inspiration and thus brings together original compositions and co-arrangements.
It features the enveloping timbre of a soprano saxophone, favoring lyricism and melody and reminiscent of the sound of the human voice, accompanied by an electric guitar blending colors inspired by both jazz and sonic textures drawn from airy Anglo-Saxon pop.
At the heart of this adventure lies a shared repertoire of jazz standards that the two musicians have explored through numerous performances between Corsica and Paris since 2014. It is through their search for refined and personal arrangements that a sound and aesthetic have gradually emerged. This led to the first compositions, which took shape as demos, and with them, the idea of creating a new project to bring these pieces to life.
Subsequently, they invited drummer Clément Brajtman and bassist Fabricio Nicolas to join them for a first working session in April 2023, which convinced them to keep this lineup, which offers more scope and color to the rhythm of the project.
The journey continues with a first concert in August 2023 and preparations underway for recording an album. Release date: February 6, 2026!
