”Where hip-hop meets jazz and soul
Flow Rea. Where hip-hop meets jazz and soul
Flow Rea is an Estonian trio that skillfully blends hip-hop grooves, soul depth, and jazz freedom. Inspired by artists such as Alfa Mist, Yussef Dayes, and the Moses Yoofee Trio, the group has developed a contemporary musical identity that is both sophisticated and accessible, capable of appealing to audiences of all generations.
The trio consists of Mathei Florea (piano, composition), an Estonian pianist who divides his time between Berlin and Tallinn. A graduate of the Berlin Jazz Institute in 2020, he studied with jazz luminaries such as Kurt Rosenwinkel and John Hollenbeck. His expressive playing and compositional style form the core of Flow Rea's sound.
Alongside him is Joosep Talumaa (guitar, bass), a versatile musician and teacher who has distinguished himself in numerous projects, notably with Ott Lepland and Sofia Rubina-Hunter. His musical approach, at the crossroads of jazz, contemporary music, and pop, brings a rich sound to the trio.
The group is completed by Dmitri Nikolajevski (drums), recognized for his technical mastery, musical sensitivity and experience with several of the greatest artists on the Estonian pop and jazz scene.
Flow Rea's music is first and foremost based on a collective creative process. Compositions take shape through improvisation, exchange, and attentive listening among the musicians, giving birth to an organic, vibrant, and lively soundscape. Their music combines exquisite interpretation with deep grooves and genuine emotional power.
